Tammy named as MCCU Women's Captain

23 April, 2010
Tamsin has come on leaps and bounds since joining Loughborough University in September 2009. Within those 8 months she has been on two England Women’s tours to India and the Caribbean and now has been selected to captain the MCCU women’s Cricket team during her first year here at Loughborugh University. Her knowledge and experience gained from representing both Kent and England age groups up to the senior level made it an easy decision to award Tamsin with the captaincy.
‘I’m very proud to be selected as captain,’ added Tammy, ‘It was a surprise as I’m only in my first year but I hope that I can bring my previous cricket experience to the team and hopefully be able to encourage and inspire my teammates. I like to lead from the front and am hoping to put in some good performances this year to help the team.’
It has been a challenging few months for Tammy, not only has she been away for six weeks with the England Women’s Squad during the winter, she has also had to juggle life as an MCCU cricketer and cope with the demands of being a Sports and Exercise Science student. Unfortunately Beaumont just missed out on selection for the Women’s World T20 squad in the Caribbean but is working even harder on her game and looking forward to playing her first MCCU fixture.
‘I feel we’re well prepared for the season, we have preseason coming up where we’ll be putting together final game plans and strategies but we’re pretty much there when it comes to cricket skills and physical preparation.’
‘Training has gone very well. I can see that everyone’s improved in key areas of their game as well as bonding together as a team. Many of the team were new to the MCCU this year, including myself, so building partnerships and getting to know each other was important. The girls have committed themselves in the fitness aspect throughout preseason and the benefits will hopefully show throughout the season.’

‘I’m looking forward to playing Leed’s Met away, I think it could be our biggest challenge. They have a strong team, which we saw earlier in the year at the indoor tournament but I’m confident we will do very well this year and have our eyes set on playing at Lords.’

Tamsin will lead the first MCCU Women's Cricket Team fixture against Durham at home on Sunday 25th April.
